This blend was created as a part of a blending class we did with a private group at the distillery. Over the course of a month, we trained them on blending, created a half dozen blends using 6 different barrels, rested the blends, and then did a blind vote for the winner.
The winning blend was made up of barrels #94, #92, and #168.
The final count was 50% Barrel #94, 33.33% Barrel #92, and 16.67% Barrel #168 making it a Straight Bourbon.
The mash bill of all three barrels is 51% corn, 45% wheat, and 4% malted barley. This is a 3 yr old blend. All of the barrels are 3 years old and 3 months, but two of the barrels (92 and 94) we received from MGP in January 2020 while we received barrel 168 in October 2020. That difference between how long they sat in Texas has a bigger impact on the individual barrels’ mid palate and depth.
